The Best Temperature To Kill Bacteria
We follow the same recommendations as you would for washing towels or sheets after someone has been ill. How often wash scrub cap? We have based this section on the recommendations from Persil.
"Towels and sheets, along with any clothes that an ill person has been wearing, should really be washed at a fairly warm temperature to kill bacteria and potential mould. A good temperature for washing towels and sheets is 40 degrees, but a 60 degree wash will be better at killing germs."
So we recommend a quick wash at 60C will be enough to make sure you kill everything along with the detergent.

5.2 Washing uniforms and workwear
How Often Wash Scrub Cap
All elements of the washing process help remove micro-organisms from fabric. Detergents (powder or liquid) and agitation release soil from the clothes. Rinsing then removes this soil through the volume of water. Temperature also plays a role.
Scientific tests, literature reviews, and expert opinions from 2007 suggest the following:
- Domestic and commercial laundering methods are similarly effective at removing micro-organisms from uniforms and workwear.
- Washing with detergents at 30ºC removes most Gram-positive micro-organisms, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
- A ten-minute wash at 60ºC removes almost all micro-organisms. Tests showed only 0.1% of Clostridioides difficile spores remained. Microbiologists found this level of contamination on uniforms and workwear is not concerning.
