it's important for all the caps is based on different diameters, specially taking into account the volume of the hair.
Small - Medium : Best for short to medium length hair with a smaller head.
Medium - Large : Best for medium to long hair or bigger head.
Generally as a point of reference if you measure around your head from the forehead then 55-60cm will feel fairly snug for small/medium. The main difference is the height of the forehead piece. this allows the cap to go further back over the head. So also personal choice comes into it.
Style of cap
We have 2 styles of caps which are more for a preference of if you need to cover all your hair. If you are in surgery this is a must and so if you have longer hair we recommend elastic style to keep longer hair bunched up.
With shorter hair then ties are fine. We have defaulted to calling them male/female styles but they are both unisex depending on the hair.
Custom Sizes / Modifications
Custom sizes are available on request. If you need a theatre hat with any modification or different measurements, fabric print or sizes, please don't hesitate to contact us first!
Important Note: These caps are handmade from licensed fabrics and are not to be confused as official merchandise, products or gifts. We are not sponsored or working with any brands.
Are you sick of uncomfortable, disposable scrub caps? Me too.
I bet your one size fit all scrub cap, doesn't actually fit. Slippery and falling into your eyes or cutting off circulation to your ears and not to mention the waste no matter how cheap the hospital must get them. It's time to make a change, so why not go big!

This is an amazing extract from a paper published called Breaking the rules for better care. Donald M. Berwick et al:
’A few years ago, the Dean of the School of Business at the University of Leicester, Dr Zoe Radnor, tried to understand the reasons for the “bicycle book” that she discovered at an English hospital she was studying. All staff who arrived at work by bicycle routinely signed a register book at the front door. Hundreds of these registers, once full, had been collected and stored for decades in clearly marked boxes. “Why?” Professor Radnor asked. No one knew.
The answer took some sleuthing. The first books dated from World War II—when rationing of fuel was the rule of the day, and when any staff who commuted by bicycle thereby earned extra food ration credits for saving on gas. Now, three-quarters of a century later, the bicycle book process remained alive and well, embedded in the organisation’s brainstem, not its cortex. It was pure waste.’ (1)
Humans only recall 30% of names after first introduction. Being British this means never asking that person's name again for fear of seeming rude or dumb. Having a connection with patients and other staff for that matter makes for a better working environment and clearer communication.
In a study in the UK of theatre hospital staff 25% of the surgeons did not remember the scrub nurses name and 30% for the anaesthetist.
From the study (Jt Comm J Qual Patient Saf. 2017 Jun;43(6):284-288. doi: 10.1016/j.jcjq.2017.03.001. Epub 2017 Apr 18.) found that surgeons only remembered 44% of the other OR staff.
Even being remembered as the person with the funky scrub cap is going to help you stand out from the crowd. Theatre teams are rarely the same for every surgery. We can of course add your name in Embroidery to any patterned cap you choose.
Make it comfortable by choosing 100% cotton! not only because having a cap that is 100% hypoallergenic which means no allergic reactions or skin irritation.

Instead of going broad we wanted to focus on delivering the best service and product.
The founders Matt and Romi had very time consuming jobs and wanted to create meaningful change through what people call today "side hustle". Romi is a Perioperative Nurse and Matt works in the film industry.

More About Medicus Caps:
Story Behind The Hats
I work in surgery as a theatre scrub nurse and in the past have had to wear disposable theatre hats. The problem with disposable ones is having to throw away hundreds of hats a year after each surgery day ends. Not to mention looking depressing and bland. They are also have no perks like elastic to better fit the head and often slip down or even completely off.
In theatre I wanted to not only show of individuality and colour to patients but an eco-friendly alternative that is also saving the NHS money that can go on more useful things. Join me in brightening up surgery as a celebration of our work to help others and show off your personality.
