How big is the embroidery? An estimate you can see

Type a name below and watch it land on a real cap at the size you choose. The bar underneath estimates how wide it comes out, and how much room that spot on the cap actually has. It is a guide, not a promise — we check every design by hand and will come back to you if we do not think it will look its best.

Where on the cap

Three lines is what most people have. Every line starts at Size 2, which is what we stitch if you do not choose, and each one can be set on its own — a name at Size 3 with a role and a department at Size 2 under it is the usual shape. The same per-line choice is on every cap listing.

The same name at all six sizes

Line 1's words, drawn at each size in turn. Every step up is two millimetres of letter height, and about a centimetre of extra width on a name.

What this cannot tell you

Everything on this page is an estimate. The widths are worked out from our own embroidery fonts and drawn on a medium/large Captain, which is the cap the sizes were photographed on — a smaller cap has less flat area and a bigger one has more, so treat them as a guide rather than a promise.

You do not have to get it exactly right, or even get the line breaks right. Every design is checked by a person before it is stitched — we will rebalance where the lines break if it reads better that way, and if we do not think your text will look its best at the size you have chosen we will come back to you before anything goes on a cap.
