About Medicus Scrub Caps
Our Story
From Theatre to Workshop
In 2018, Romina was working as a theatre nurse at the Royal Marsden Trust when she noticed something that bothered her every shift: the sheer volume of disposable scrub caps heading straight to clinical waste. She'd already been making her own reusable caps for herself and colleagues for a few years—caps that fit properly, could be personalised with names and roles, and didn't need throwing away after a single use.
With a growing desire to start a family and a belief that there had to be a better way, Romi made the leap. What started as a home studio quickly became something bigger.
7+ Years of Milestones
2018 — Romi sets up a home studio and gets serious about building a business
Early 2019 — First premises outside the house, first employee hired
Mid 2020 — COVID-19 hits. While supply chains crumble around us, we work straight through—decentralising manufacturing to keep people employed and NHS teams supplied
Late 2020 — Move to Sheffield to expand manufacturing capacity between lockdowns
2021 — The tide turns. Disposable supply chains remain fragile; Trusts begin seriously considering reusables
2022 — 10+ NHS Trusts make the switch. We expand our range to be truly inclusive: Hijab-compatible styles, Orthopaedic hoods, Above-the-ear tie backs
2023 — Launch of our Turban Scrub Cap and pioneering Hemp fabric collection
2024 — Introduction of ID Bands and RFID tagging for infection control tracking. Recognised with sustainability awards and full carbon footprint certification
2025 — Over 700 prints available, plus new Dreadlock-friendly styles. Serving NHS Trusts nationwide.
Made in Sheffield. Made to Order.
We're often asked why we don't manufacture overseas. The answer is simple: we couldn't do what we do.
Every Medicus scrub cap is made to order in our Sheffield workshop. Apart from growing the cotton and weaving the yarn, everything happens under one roof—cutting, sewing, embroidering, quality checking, and packing.
This isn't just about supporting British manufacturing (though we're proud of that). It's what allows us to offer over 700 prints across every style and size, with full personalisation and no setup fees. No minimum orders. No compromises.
When a Trust needs 500 caps embroidered with names and roles across eight different styles, we can do it. When an individual nurse wants a single Turban cap in a specific print with their name on it, we can do that too.
Why Reusables Matter
Every reusable scrub cap replaces hundreds of disposables over its lifetime. That's less clinical waste, lower costs, and a smaller carbon footprint.
But it's not just about the environment. When theatre staff wear caps clearly embroidered with their name and role, communication improves. Teams work better. Patient safety improves.
We believe sustainable healthcare and better patient outcomes aren't competing priorities—they're the same goal.
