Questions about surgical caps

How do I know what size scrub cap to order?
Measure around your head where the cap will sit (typically just above your ears and across your forehead). Our size guide shows estimated measurements for each size from XS to 2XL. If you're between sizes, we recommend ordering a sample box to try before committing as people also wear their scrub caps differently even if they wear the same size.
What material are your scrub caps made from?
All our caps are made from 100% premium cotton that's breathable, comfortable during long shifts, and naturally absorbent—no need for a separate sweatband. The fabric is tested for durability and comfort in clinical environments. We also offer Hemp as a new material we are piloting in some NHS Trusts.
Are your scrub caps suitable for operating theatres?
Yes. Our caps meet NHS workwear guidance and are used across operating theatres, labs, kitchens, and clinical environments. They're tested through industrial washing, autoclaves, and daily clinical use.
Will my scrub cap survive NHS commercial washing?
Yes. All our scrub caps are made from 100% cotton tested to withstand commercial laundering and drying and have even been in autoclave sterilisation. The fabric and embroidery maintain their quality through hundreds of wash cycles.
How should I wash my scrub cap at home?
Follow your workplace washing policy. General guidance is machine wash at 40-60°C with similar colours. Tumble dry on low or air dry. Iron on medium heat if needed. Avoid bleach and fabric softeners which can affect the cotton's breathability. We have NHS Trusts washing at higher temperatures like 70C so depends on your use case and work policies.
How long will my scrub cap order take?
Most personalised orders are made and dispatched within 1-5 working days depending on the complexity and time of year you order as we do get busy. Custom printed fabric caps take 5-7 working days. Standard UK delivery is 2-3 days after dispatch. We'll email tracking information when your order ships.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, we ship worldwide from the UK to Japan, Africa, and everywhere in between. International orders may require courier or special delivery services depending on your location. Shipping costs are calculated at checkout.
Are your scrub caps sustainable?
Yes. Our reusable caps replace thousands of disposable caps—just 20 surgical teams using 5 caps each prevents approximately 100,000 single-use caps from landfill annually.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a scrub cap and a surgical cap?

The terms are often used interchangeably. A surgical cap (or theatre cap) is any head covering worn in the operating theatre to contain hair and reduce contamination risk. Scrub cap is the more common informal term. Our surgical caps meet the same clinical standards regardless of what you call them.

Are reusable surgical caps better than disposable ones?

Reusable surgical caps offer several advantages: they are more comfortable for long procedures, reduce clinical waste (each cap replaces 100+ disposables per year), and allow for personalisation with names and roles for team identification. When washed at 60°C, reusable caps meet the same infection control standards as disposables.

What surgical cap styles are available?

We offer three main styles for theatre use: Bandana (classic tie-back with full coverage — the most popular for surgery), Captain (fitted tie-back with a structured front), and Elastic Backed (no-tie slip-on for quick changes between cases). All styles provide full hair containment for sterile environments.

Can surgeons personalise their surgical caps?

Yes. Adding your name and role via embroidery is increasingly common in UK theatres — it improves team communication, patient identification, and safety. Studies have shown that visible name identification in theatre improves teamwork and reduces errors. Choose from multiple fonts and thread colours.

How should I wash my surgical cap?

Machine wash at 60°C following NHS infection control guidelines. Our 100% cotton caps are designed to withstand repeated high-temperature washing. Turn inside out before washing if the cap has embroidery or satin lining. Do not tumble dry on high heat — air dry or use a low setting.
